The Netherlands Film Festival is a competitive annual event that screens more than 130 Dutch features, shorts, documentaries and TV dramas, making it the most important in the country. The main location is the Winkel van Sinkel in Utrecht, where you can find the festival pavilion and the central ticket office. All cinemas and other venues are within walking distance in the city centre.
As the Dutch film industry's main screening platform, the festival shows a wide range of premières from both seasoned directors and newcomers. Prizes - the Golden Calves - are awarded in 14 different categories.
Founded in 1981, the event is now - along with the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival and the Holland Animation Festival - one of the top Dutch film events. As well as the main competition, there are numerous retrospectives, special programmes and seminars, along with industry events for international buyers, programmers and local filmmakers. If you want to know about, work in, or work with the Dutch film and television industry, Utrecht in September is the place to be.
Directions Utrecht is in the heart of the Netherlands and an important railway interchange. Trains travel to and from Amsterdam and Schiphol airport 24 hours a day. |
